What kind of therapy involves both behavioral and cognitive interventions?

(B) symptom substitution
(C) primary preventions
(D) rational emotive behavior therapy
(E) systematic desensitization

Answer
(E) systematic desensitization

Spoiler
Explanation
Patients using systematic desensitization try to replace anxiety with relaxation. Patients place themselves in somewhat stressful situations and use relaxation techniques (calming thoughts, deep breathing, etc.) to reduce their stress reactions until they are no longer stressed in this situation. Patients then move up to the next level of the “fear hierarchy” and place themselves in a slightly more stressful situation and use the relaxation techniques. The other therapies listed are either strictly behavioral (counterconditioning) or cognitive (rational emotive behavior therapy).
